The company:
Seatrade Groningen is one of the oldest and largest shipping companies in the Netherlands with almost 75 years of experience. Initially starting with the transport of general cargo, Seatrade now specializes in the transportation of deep-frozen fish, meat, and refrigerated cargo such as kiwis, avocados, and bananas with ships sailing worldwide. The management of the ships takes place from the Groningen office, while the commercial activities are handled from the Breda office.
Seatrade Groningen has a small Newbuilding & Projects department, which is among other things responsible for: conceptual ship design, liaison with shipbuilders and classification societies, technical specifications, contract negotiations, plan approval, organising on-site supervision, sea trials, delivery and guarantee but also for projects and modifications, stability questions and repair proposals of the operational fleet.
Over the years this department has handled projects at shipyards in Japan, Italy, Lithuania, Bulgaria and China. Its experience ranges from dry bulk container vessels and reefer vessels to extensive vessel conversion work. At present, Seatrade has newbuilding contracts for 6x 1800 TEU and 2x 2800 TEU container vessels in China.
The Newbuilding & Projects department’s Project Manager handles the aforementioned projects not merely as a standard developer, but from the initial design phase, through class approval, and throughout the construction process, up to the final delivery of the vessels to their owner.
Currently we are looking for a: Project Manager Newbuilding & Project Department
The job:
In this challenging position you will be responsible for:
• Managing various projects, new buildings, conversions and modifications, where specific naval architectural expertise and project management skills are required.
• Drawing up of basic vessel layout on basis of parameters as required through the project’s business plan.
• Liaising with Classification Societies to achieve an economically optimized vessel that meets Class requirements.
• Staying up to date and transferring new developments and applicable legislation into action plans.
• Liaising with selected shipbuilding yards and design bureaus to invite preliminary tenders.
• Finalising the project’s full technical specification.
• Presenting the complete project on a technical and cost-wise basis to Seatrade Groningen and its project partners.
• Adhering to customers’ specific requirements when managing projects handled by third parties.
• Dealing with all kinds of stability and strength questions.
• Advising departments on vessel construction issues.
• Working in compliance with Seatrade Standards.
• Reporting to the Technical Director.
The requirements:
• Degree in Naval Architecture and/or Shipbuilding Engineering and/or Ship Design.
• A confident, organized professional skilled in offering accurate, fact-driven advice.
• A flexible, creative and innovative approach to the business and stakeholders.
• Affinity with emission reduction legislation and techniques.
• Relevant experience in a ship design department is preferred.
• Service minded to other departments, confident to work in teams and with teams.
• Fluent in English, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to travel worldwide.
