The role
As a Design & Proposal Engineer within High Speed Craft you will be responsible for the development of new standard Vessels and the optimization of the current product portfolio together with a team of specialists (Research, Engineering, Production and Marketing). All are based on market research and the latest developments in respect to digitalization, sustainability, etc within Damen and by our suppliers. As a Design & Proposal Engineer, you are also responsible for the development of requests that come in via the Sales department. You team up with the sales manager and take care of all technical, cost price, delivery time-related information and create together the winning strategy how the client is supported in the best way. This involves close collaboration with other departments within Damen.
Key Accountabilities:
- Developing and optimizing (standard) designs so that the cost price can be decreased, and the quality, reliability, and functionality of the ships can be increased;
- Consultation with various departments and external parties to arrive at an optimized design;
- Selecting the best fitting vessel with the necessary equipment, based on the client's criteria and our range of standard designs and standard options;
- Drafting (or having drafted) the general plan, technical specifications, cost price calculation, and delivery date within the framework of the client’s request;
- Monitoring the progress of the project in the pre-sales phase;
- Support the Sales Manager with your technical input during meetings with the customer. Where necessary by means of presentations and/or calculations;
- Providing optimal knowledge transfer, when a tender becomes an order.
Skills & Experience:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferably in Naval Architecture and engineering
- Experience: Preferably a minimum of 5 years relevant work experience;
- Personal Traits: Driven, ambitious, proactive, and prepared to go the extra mile. Hands-on, accurate, well-structured, reliable, and discrete.
- Team Player: Flexible and able to work effectively within a dynamic work environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills in English and Dutch is a pre.
