With headquarters located in Breda (the Netherlands), Vroon employs about 2,000 professionals in offices around the world and on board a diverse fleet of approximately 110 vessels. The Company is active - through various subsidiaries and under different brand names - in the following business segments: offshore-support vessels; offshore maintenance and engineering services; livestock carriers; product tankers; high-heat tankers and vessel-management services. From our Breda head office, approximately 120 staff support the Company’s activities.

What will you do?

In your role as Technical Claims Handler, you will be responsible for a varied marine-claims caseload for the Company’s diverse and specialised fleet. You will predominantly handle hull-and-machinery and P&I claims and will look after the Company’s insurance matters in general. You will also be responsible for analysing the fleet’s claim trends and reporting claim statistics. On the basis of your day-to-day experience and reported claim trends, you may be asked to give presentations to the Company’s divisions on insurance, claims and lessons learned.

You will be the main contact person for Superintendents, Operators and Charterers; liaising with insurers or brokers where necessary.

You will work in a close-knit team consisting of two Claims Handlers, two Legal Counsels, a Corporate Secretary and a Department Assistant. In this function, you will report to the Group Legal Manager.

Who are we looking for?

Our preferred candidate has:

A relevant qualification in marine technical education, such as HBO-level nautical school or HBO/WO marine engineering;
Relevant knowledge of maritime insurance, or a keen interest and willingness to develop this expertise, is a pro;
A pro-active, pragmatic approach to problem-solving;
Strong interpersonal skills;
An eye for detail;
Good commercial awareness and understanding;
Excellent communication, reporting and presentation skills in English (verbal and written).
