The role
As Team Lead Design Control at Damen Naval, you will oversee the Design Control aspect throughout the engineering and production processes of naval vessel projects. This encompasses a wide range of critical aspects such as hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, weight control, regulatory compliance, noise management, welding and preservation, signatures, and vulnerability. From the pre-Basic Engineering phase to project execution, you will lead a dedicated team and ensure quality, timely delivery, and effective reporting to the Project Manager Engineering.
Key accountabilities
In this role, your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and coaching a medium to small Design Control team throughout the basic and detailed engineering phases of specialized complex shipbuilding projects.
- Managing day-to-day operations and short- and medium-term planning of the team.
- Monitoring and controlling the manhour budget, supporting progress reports, and delivering high-quality engineering work within schedule and budget.
- facilitating design reviews, and.
- Coordinating technical support or commissioning activities for contracted projects.
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable requirements and specifications.
- Contributing to the development, transfer, and retention of knowledge, as well as continuous evaluation and improvement of processes within the department.
Skills & experience
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor or Master's degree in a technical field with a minimum of five years of relevant experience.
- Knowledge of and experience with ship design, particularly complex naval ships.
- Proven track record of realizing structured work packages within budget and schedule, adhering to good engineering practices and statutory requirements.
- Proficiency in both Dutch and English, both written and verbal.
- Key competencies: customer orientation, teamwork, result and quality orientation, behavioural flexibility, leadership, decisiveness, planning, organizing, initiative, and coaching.
- Good command of the English language both written and verbal.
- Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.
- Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with (also) a non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible given the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
