THE ROLE

As the Claim Manager at Damen Naval you play a pivotal role in managing incoming and outgoing claims related to our shipbuilding projects. Collaborating closely with internal and, when required, external stakeholders, the Claim Manager contributes to the development of strategies for claim prevention and resolution. As the owner of processes and tools, you act as a facilitator, advisor, and expeditor, driving progress in claim handling and closure. Additionally, the Claim Manager provides hands-on support in individual cases, guiding, challenging, and ensuring proper documentation in close coordination with the 'Claim Owner.' This position is essential to maintaining efficiency and ensuring seamless claim management within complex naval projects.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Manage claim processes across stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal teams, in alignment with Procurement, Subcontract Management, Project Management, and Legal.

  • Oversee the end-to-end handling of incoming and outgoing claims, ensuring timely and effective cooperation with internal stakeholders.

  • Provide strategic input and support for negotiations with suppliers, subcontractors, and customers to protect and enhance the company’s commercial position.

  • Drive proactive claim management by identifying opportunities for improvement and strengthening the company’s position in collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Expedite the collection of critical information from internal teams to ensure complete and accurate claim case files.

  • Maintain and enhance claim databases, tools, and processes while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, including Lessons Learned and training activities.


SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:

  • At least 5–10 years of relevant experience in claim management within the naval, offshore, or large-scale industrial sectors. Background in shipbuilding or defense projects is highly advantageous.

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in business administration, engineering, law, or another relevant discipline.

  • Proficient understanding of claim management processes, contract management, and legal aspects related to claims. Familiarity with tools and databases used for claim tracking and documentation.

  • Strong ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks, as well as drive proactive and strategic claim management.

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Excellent command of Dutch and English, both written and verbal. Proficiency in additional languages, such as German, is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to various project sites and supplier locations as required.

  • Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the hiring process.

  • Permanent EU citizenship and passport are both required. Candidates with EU (work) visa or with both an EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible in accordance with the requirements imposed by the military nature of our projects.
