The role of Purchaser is within the Supply Chain department of Damen Workboats, containing the teams Procurement, Material Coordination, Category Management and Standards & Documentation.
About the role

You're about to dive headfirst into the world of procuring components like engines, systems, windows, valves, and more – all essential for the production of high quality workboats at our shipyards located in Vietnam, Turkey, China, and Abu Dhabi!
Our shipyards are a hive of activity, producing a remarkable number of workboats each year, and guess what? We're not just building them as-is; using our standardized solutions we're crafting vessels precisely to our clients' unique needs. It's all about keeping that workflow super smooth and to maximize economies of scale.
Your mission is to ensure a swift and seamless procurement process for predominantly standardized components, with prices outlined in our framework agreements. Think of it as conducting a symphony, where every element must be perfectly timed.
But that's not all – our Procurement team is currently riding the wave of transformation! We are transitioning from a project-centric approach to a category-focused model. In this role, you'll collaborate with a dynamic team to ensure that materials are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
And here's the cherry on top: you'll have the opportunity to join forces with our Category Management colleagues to enhance Supplier Performance and drive Supplier Development initiatives. Key accountabilities
As a Purchaser in the Workboats division, you will:
- Proactively collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and escalate potential risks in a timely manner.
- Embrace a teamwork-oriented approach and actively participate in team-established processes and workflows.
- Contribute actively to improvement programs and events aimed at optimizing our global supply chain for goods.
- Continuously assess and align procurement set-up and planning with the Material Coordinator and the shipyard to ensure seamless production planning.
- Maintain real-time awareness of delivery statuses and promptly update this information in our ERP program.
- Demonstrate the ability to early identify and mitigate risks within the supply chain
- Take responsibility of complete and correct purchase info record information in our ERP system
- Engage in supplier performance and supplier development discussions, ensuring operational alignment with our procurement and logistics processes.
Skills & experience
In this role as a Purchaser, you bring:
- A Bachelor degree preferably in Logistics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering;
- and/or at least 3 years working in an International Supply Chain or Procurement role, preferably in a process driven industry;
- Experience with working in a commercial environment;
- Excellent communication skills in English/Dutch, both spoken and written;
- Experience with working in ERP systems (knowledge of SAP is a pre);
- Hands-on mentality, with a service-oriented approach.
